Tinubu gives Senate President Akpabio new assignment


President Bola Tinubu has appointed Senate President Godswill Akpabio to lead a Nigerian delegation to the funeral of Pope Francis.

The funeral will take place in Vatican City on Saturday, April 27, 2025.

The delegation includes key figures such as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, and prominent church leaders, including Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, Archbishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, and Archbishop Ignatius Ayua Kaigama.

The group will present a letter from President Tinubu conveying condolences on the passing of the Pope to the Acting Head of the Vatican.

Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88, had just led Easter Sunday services at the Vatican before his death.

President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow, calling Pope Francis a humble servant and a beacon of hope for Christians around the world.
