President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the recent ruling by a United States court asking security agencies to release files related to past investigations about him.
Tinubu said the reports are old and contain nothing new.
Speaking through his media aide, Tinubu explained that the documents being requested from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have been in the public space for more than thirty years.
He said the reports do not accuse him of any crime and there is no fresh discovery in them.
Tinubu said his legal team is already studying the court’s decision, which was delivered by Judge Beryl Howell in Washington D.C.
The judge had ordered the release of documents linked to a federal investigation from the 1990s.
This order followed a lawsuit filed in June 2023 by an American citizen, Aaron Greenspan, who claimed that several U.S. agencies—including the FBI, CIA, DEA, IRS, and State Department—refused to release the documents under the Freedom of Information Act.
Tinubu said there is no need for panic or concern over the matter, insisting that the reports have been available for decades and do not affect his record or leadership.
He maintained that nothing in the documents links him to any wrongdoing and described the current interest in the case as unnecessary, given that the information has been known for a long time.
