President Bola Tinubu has announced leadership changes at several federal universities across Nigeria.
He sacked Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, now renamed Yakubu Gowon University.
Tinubu also dissolved the entire governing council.
Maikudi was immediately replaced by Professor Lar Patricia Manko, who will serve as Acting Vice-Chancellor for a six-month term.
However, Manko will not be eligible to apply for the substantive position when it becomes vacant.
Similarly, Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu was sacked from his position as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), prior to the conclusion of his tenure on February 14.
He was succeeded by Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam, who will also serve as Acting Vice-Chancellor for six months, with the same restriction regarding eligibility for the permanent role.
In addition to these changes, President Tinubu also made several key appointments to strengthen university governance across the country.
Senator Lanre Tejuoso was appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, while Senator Joy Emordi now takes over as Pro-Chancellor at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
Other appointments include:
– Engineer Olubunmi Kayode Ojo as Pro-Chancellor of UNN.
– Gen. Ike Nwachukwu reassigned to University of Uyo.
– Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi to the Pro-Chancellorship of Federal University of Lokoja.
– Senator Sani Stores appointed as Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education.
– Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi as the new Pro-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka.
These leadership changes are effective immediately.
