President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to address the nation on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 7 a.m., as part of the celebrations marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.
This was revealed in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on Information and Strategy.
The nationwide broadcast will be available on television, radio, and other electronic platforms.
Citizens are encouraged to tune in via the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) network services to follow the address.
Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960, after decades of political struggle and negotiations led by notable nationalists such as Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, and Ahmadu Bello.
This historic moment marked the end of British administration and the beginning of self-governance, with Nigeria emerging as a sovereign nation.
Since then, October 1 has been celebrated annually as Independence Day.
