Tinubu told to sack IGP Egbetokun

The #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Organising Committee has called on President Bola Tinubu to sack the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun over the killing of peaceful protesters.

The organizers made the demand during a candlelight symposium held at the Rights House in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Friday.

The event was organized in memory of those who lost their lives during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.

The committee behind the protests, operating from Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos, had previously declared three days of mourning for the victims.

A member of the committee, also serving as the National Spokesperson for the Youth Rights Campaign, spoke the gravity of the situation, saying that over 40 persons were killed during the nationwide protests.

“We are demanding the sacking of the Inspector General of Police,” he said.

Recall that Amnesty International in a statement on Friday, August 2 listed the states where the killings took place.

It said six persons were killed in Suleja, Niger state, with dozens severely wounded.

According to Amnesty International, in Maiduguri, it said four people were killed, while three were reportedly killed in Kaduna.

It said, “The Nigerian authorities must investigate these incidents impartially and effectively and ensure that security personnel suspected of responsibility for the alleged deadly use of force are held to account through fair trial”.

Recall that Nigerians since August 1 have been hitting the streets to protest against economic hardship, bad governance and hunger.

Saturday, August 10 is the grand finale of the protest and will conclude with a one-million man march across all the 36 States and Federal Capital Territory.
