Top Nigerian Politicians React to Abduction of Six Girls in Bwari

On social media, Nigerians started a campaign to collect money for the ransom needed to release five sisters and a woman only identified as Nabeeha, who were taken from their Abuja home on January 2, 2024.


Senator Shehu Sani, a prominent Nigerian politician and former senator, has taken to social media to express his grief in the surge of acts of kidnapping in Nigeria.

The former senator who represented Kaduna South also decried the deteriorating security situation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Sani also called on some elites especially in the northern region for playing the ethnicity card and not speaking up for eight years on the bloodshed and kidnappings in the region.

He said in response to the kidnapping of six females in the Federal Capital Territory’s Bwari Area Council—among whom the abductors are claimed to have slain one, Nabeehah.

An X user going by the handle Adamu_Asiya_, who claimed to be a cousin of the abducted girls, revealed the abduction in the wee hours of Wednesday and mentioned that her uncle had been killed in the process.

Also speaking, a former Minister for Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, stated that a friend of his has volunteered to pay N50 million ransom to kidnappers to ensure the release of the five remaining sisters who were seized in Abuja.

On Sunday, however, ex-minister Pantami said via a tweet on his X profile that one of his friends—whose name was withheld—had offered to provide N50 million towards their release.
