US Orders Biden-era Migrants To Leave Country

The United States government has ordered migrants who entered the country under former President Joe Biden’s CBP One app policy to leave immediately.

This announcement came after the policy was officially ended under current President Donald Trump.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), formal notices have been sent to those affected, instructing them to voluntarily return to their countries using the CBP Home App.

If they refuse to leave, officials say they will be located, deported, and permanently banned from reentering the U.S.

The CBP One app, launched in January 2023 during Biden’s presidency, allowed migrants to book appointments at U.S. border entry points.

It was part of a plan to manage immigration more humanely and in an orderly fashion.

However, Trump cancelled the app’s use on his first day back in office, ending the system that gave many migrants a legal pathway to seek temporary residency.

The decision is expected to affect over 930,000 migrants. Trump, known for his strict immigration stance, had promised during his campaign to deport millions of undocumented individuals.

He has faced criticism for using harsh language, calling some migrants “animals” and accusing them of being linked to violent crimes.

A DHS spokesperson described the cancellation of the programme as a move to fulfil promises to secure the border and protect national security.

The notices were reportedly sent via email, based on the government’s authority to revoke temporary immigration benefits.

This policy shift follows other recent actions by Trump’s administration, such as revoking the legal status of over 500,000 migrants from countries like Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

They were also given just a few weeks to leave the U.S.
