The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), resumed on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
During the hearing, Justice James Omotosho granted the Federal Government’s request for its witnesses to give their testimonies from behind screens, citing security concerns due to the sensitive nature of the case.
Kanu’s defence team, led by Kanu Agabi, appeared in court with 22 lawyers, but the judge insisted that only the 13 previously approved names would be recognised in the proceedings.
Among the defence lawyers present were four senior advocates: Audu Nunghe, Joseph Akubo, Emeka Etiaba, and Onyechi Ikpeazu.
The Federal Government’s lawyer, Adegboyega Awolowo, explained that the request for screened testimonies had been made through an earlier ex parte application, emphasising the need to protect the witnesses involved.
Further developments on the case are expected in the coming days.
